First time out.
« on: November 29, 2007, 07:44:20 PM »

Hello all, this New Years I will be heading out to brimstone for our first time. It will be myself and my neighbor. We will be bringing the wives with on two sporstsman 800 x2's. I have been hearing about the loss of land and we aer traveling 8 hours for this ride. What can we expect for trails? Not looking for anything too hairy just some fun.

Any sugestions on what trails? What trails not to try? Will there still be enough trails for 5 days of riding? Any help would be great. And hope to see
some other riders out when we are there!

There will be plenty to ride still at New Years...they are talking like there is not going to be any change until Feb or so of 08... I would suggest u come on and have a good time New Years.
Stop by the permit office and Brimstone Belle can point out some trails on the map...there are a few ride reports that i and others have posted that u can read adn see how they were... My moderate and yours may be different... so read and talk to Brimstone belle and see what will suit ya for that weekend.

Me and a couple from my bunch may be down that weekend, 28th - 31st or so. I have ridin about every trail there and it is awsome you'll have a great time, the trails vary alot and it depends alot on your riding style, we are fairly agressive riders so we take about what ever comes at us. Weather conditions would greatly have an impact on that though there, and its a toss up on what it'll be then, we were there Easter weekend this year and it was freaking cold! We tent camp also by the way! It dang near come a blizzard up on the mountain one night.
They have a good GPS waypoint map at the office, and not sure but heard they can download it to your GPS, STAKK or someone could confirm that, Dudley and them do a heck of a job marking the trails but there are some %$&*^&%$ that change the signs around as in 25 & 27 for example, and the oil well roads that are cut in on trails and the logging guys may cut down trees that have the signs on them, but with their map and a GPS you'll be ok.
If we happen to meet up we can show you around some, we are in a couple of Rhino's my buddys is gray and I have a Midnight Armor coming in in a few more days.

Pack your clothes for the coldest of temps.... then make sure u layer... Might even wear some coveralls that are water proof and definitly shoes that are waterproof... Walmart sells some real good ones... Herman Survivors! only time my feet have ever got wet was when the water went over the tops of my boots. Get the kinds with the high number of isulation... get u a good rain suit too... something with gore tex... its a little pricey but I bought so many walmart brand ones I could have paid for 2 gore tex rain suits.

If u like to ride in the winter, invest in some heated hand grips... I love mine! Usually they are priced around $60-$70. Well worth the money! Saves on pairs of gloves too.

I have rode every New Years the past 3 years...this will be my 4th year straight...and every year the weather is different.... pack for it like u will need it and if u dont, u will be ok. If u get those hot hands things, dont put them right on your skin...they might burn u..... try to keep something in between ya. If u camp, invest in a good sleeping bag too! THey are expensive but they do work! PROMISE! We just bought another one from Dick's Sporting Goods and I think they are pretty common in bigger cities. Log on and see if they are close to your town.....Thats where we got our Coleman 10' degree sleeping bag.....last weekend it got down to 25 degrees and my girl stayed warm as long as she stayed inside it.

Some trails to ride that are moderate are the trails in the 20s... some take u close to the river and all and are a bunch of trails over in the east side of the property. T9 is a good cut through trail over to the area for the 20s trails. Hope this give u more to go on.
