Sold to Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency. Negotiations were completed last week and Thursday Tennessee Wildlife Resource Commission was notified. TWRA is in the process of posting major trailheads with new signs. www.tnwildlife.org will have maps available on line in the next few days. The agnecy is going to temporarily place the property under the Royal Blue WMA. This information was gleaned from the Knoxville paper, maybe stakk has some more information

Not excatly.........The entire 44,000 acres is now owned by Lyme Timber..........The state has bought a 23,000 acre conservation easement on the property, to be managed by TWRA, the riding will continue, if you have a current permit that allows you to ride on Royal Blue and Sundquist, you can ride this easement also.......the remaining 20,000 acres is excluded from this deal and the state has nothing to do with it.........Brimstone Recreation will continue to manage the recreation on the remaining 20,000 acres.......In a nutshell, the Brimstone property is still open for riding, except 2 permits are needed now if you want to ride the entire property, or you can choose to only ride the Brimstone Rec. managed property, or the state managed sections......... meetings will be had soon, and the permit fee's for 2008 on the Brimstone Rec. 20,000 acres will be posted soon.........Stakk

U know this is really terrible news.....specially for the ones of us that travel from out of state to ride. Any idea on the prices of permits for the remaining Brimstone area? I mean if its less land and all... just to make sure we are protected some of us will have to buy the TWRA permit and the Brimstone. Will Brimstone also become a TWRA permit seller like RideRoyalBlue.com and other areas that sell permits? Between gas prices and land permits I might as well sell my atvs and buy a motorcycle Specially if I plan to ride out of state. Maybe I should just consider a rocking chair. Can u tell us when the yearly permit expires? End of the year or on into February?

Stakk , I was under the impression that to ride on Royal Blue all one needed was a hunting fishing license. Since that twra was receiving the fees from the issue of hunting fishing license, and those fees are what purchased the area, that the license itself was the permit to use the property ?
Limecat check on the link posted in the first of the thread to twra in a few days and it should have a map.

If yall find out any info on the fishing permits being cheaper then the riding ones let me know..Im all about savingmoney when it comes to riding and the more I save the more times I get to go ride. Im sure the rocking chairs could buck me off too and seeing how I have become pretty good at my dismounts I might could handle it! Talks and opinions about this little deal at Bstone is all over the message boards. Most are saying what a hot place they had and how it was on its way to the best riding area in East Tn. Still is for the locals that dont have to buy out of state permits. Alright...enough with my disappointment.

The state is being talked to about the out of state permit prices as we speak..........also, Brimstone Rec. is planning on building new trails to replace what the TWRA took from us......... they will be built on existing log trails with no damage to hardwoods or the enviornment........bear in mind, that you are NOT required to buy a state permit until Febuary, and you do not have to buy one at all, unless you want to ride on the 23,000 acres they took over........all you need is a Brimstone permit to ride the 20,000 acres that the state didn't take control of........To ride any state owned land you need a hunting/fishing combo plus a WMA permit, which totals $45.00 (Tn resident)......the OHV permit (Tn resident) is $61.00 and the out of state is in fact $191.00, not sure what the out of state hunt/fish/wma combo is?.....Folks 20,000 acres is still alot of terrain to ride, Black Mt. in Evarts Ky. is only 8000 acres, plus there is several more thousand ares "off park" that they ride...... right now there is about 125 miles of trails left on the 20,000 acre Brimstone Rec. managed property.......Bama, there will still be plenty of trails and good riding left on this 20,000 acres...... also, we could have lost all of it, but didn't....... it could have been sold out to developers and such, but at least we will have a place to ride from now on out........if we can get the state to restructure the out of state permit fee's and make them cheaper, it will be a win for us........until then, we will continue to have 20,000 acres to enjoy for years to come, and when you think about it, with most places being much smaller, 20,000 acres is huge in comparison.....Carolina Adventure World is only 2600 acres, and several mud parks in Texas are 500-1000 acres........with 20,000 acres to work with, we'll be alright, we just need you all's continued support!!!!!!! Stakk
